We got Sugar at 4 weeks old as a stud fee puppy back.  I went to see how the puppies were doing at 4 weeks, not planning to bring my puppy home for another 2 to 3 weeks.  However, after seeing the litter and making my pick (Sugar) I noticed the ladies 2 year old son carrying the other puppies around by their head and decided to take my puppy home that day.  We named her Sugar, mostly for her color, but she was a very sweet girl.  She became a part time house dog.  Sugar was a special part of our lives and loved our children more than we could ever know.  We had decided to breed her one last time and when she didn't have her puppies in a timely manner we decided to take her down for a c-section and just have her spayed at the same time.  So, we had the cesarian and had 6 live puppies and the vet spayed her while she was already asleep.  We brought her home and put her in the house in her swimming pool (whelping box) and went outside to check on the other puppies and came back inside (no more than 2 minutes) and she had passed away.  We tried giving CPR, but it was too late.  While we were heartbroken, now we had to worry about her 6 new babies and what we could do with them.  So, we tried Daisy with 4 of them along with her own 4 and she took to them like they were hers.  The other 2 babies we gave to Angel and she took up with them as if they had been hers all along.  Sugar was a true Akita, and was loved very much.

Sweetie was the backbone of our kennel.  After a few years of using dogs in our kennels that we just weren't that crazy about, we were given the opportunity to purchase Sweetie.  Sweetie came to us from High Plains Akitas in SD.  She was from the very last litter of the last producing Hoss son. His name was Goshen's Born O'Fire, better known as Buddha.  Her mother was High Plains Rising Star BRB, who was out of the "Griz/Lynn" breeding that had worked so well for Mike Shedd all those years.  It was truly an honor and we are very grateful to Mike for allowing us the chance to own such a wonderful girl.  Sweetie was born 02-23-2000 and crossed the Rainbow Bridge 04-24-2009.  She contributed great things to our kennel and to the Akita breed itself.  She is the mother to our Kody, whom we are currently linebreeding on.  Our CH. Sammy is linebred on Sweetie. Our girl Angel is a Sweetie daughter and is a spitting image of her mother. Our girl Sweetie may be gone, but will never be forgotten and will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren here at Big Bear Akitas. We will miss you old girl. Below are some pictures of some of Sweetie's kids and grandkids.
